About the Show

House of Payne, created and produced by comedian and independent producer Tyler Perry, involves a multi-generational family living under one roof right here in Atlanta who are constantly dealing with the hardships that come with all large families.

Meet Curtis Payne, the Fire Chief of Engine Company Five, doting husband to his beautiful wife, Ella, overly-patient father to his freeloading son, Calvin, and the happy king of his castle. That is, until his nephew, CJ needs his help and, more importantly, a place to stay. Oh, and did we mention he has two kids of his own and a wife who is a recovering drug addict?

C.J.’s family immediately takes over and makes Curtis feel like the court jester in his own castle. And when their temporary stay turns into a permanent one, life as Curtis knows it comes to a screeching halt. Now, with three generations living under one roof, Curtis has come to the painful realization that he is now a permanent resident of the House of Payne

This chaotic living situation takes its toll on cranky Curtis, who is reluctant to have his routine disturbed. In addition to CJ's family, Curtis’ and Ella's son, Calvin, a wise-cracking college kid with no money, constantly hangs out at home which makes it impossible for Curtis to have any peace and quiet. It soon becomes evident just how wide the generation gap is, as the family tries to find a way to coexist through all of life's hilarious ups and downs.
