![]() Born in Concord, Massachusetts, Steve Carell initially dreamed of being a radio deejay. Knowing he wanted to be an entertainer, while attending Denison University, he started working for the college’s radio station. Upon graduation, being a deejay did not pan out as planned and he decided to try something new, acting. He began taking acting classes at Chicago’s Second City troupe, and it was there that he found his true obsession to entertain. Comedy instantly became second nature to Carell, he taught improvisational comedy classes, wrote for comedian Dana Carvey, and eventually landed a gig as a correspondent on The Daily Show, gaining him national recognition. While his breakout performance was opposite Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty, his roles in movies such as The 40-year-old Virgin and Little Miss Sunshine showed his true acting ability. Most recently, Carell has become best known for his role as Michael Scott, the pompous, but hilarious boss on The Office. In 2006, Carell won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Comedy and three Emmy nominations for The Office. He also received a Writer’s Guild of America nomination for Best Original Screenplay for The 40-Year-Old Virgin and was recognized by Life Magazine as the funniest man in America. |
