ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Ridwell, a new bi-weekly sustainability service helping us waste less and become more sustainable, was started by Ryan Metzger and his 6-year-old son. On Thursday, they stopped by the Atlanta News First newsroom and told us that in their Seattle neighborhood, they began collecting hard-to-recycle items like batteries, light bulbs, and Styrofoam, and their business was born.
The service comes directly to Atlantans’ doors bi-weekly to recycle items that don’t (or shouldn’t) go into our trash cans and blue bins, they said. Ridwell works with Atlanta companies including Scraplanta, PAWS Atlanta, FODAC, Blue Goblin and others to make sure these items are responsibly repurposed. The new service has already diverted 14 million pounds of waste from landfills, they said.
Atlanta is the first East Coast city where Ridwell service is offered.
