Spring training 2025: Braves pitchers and catchers report

First full squad practice set for Feb. 18

Atlanta Braves' pitchers and catchers report Pitchers and catchers reported Wednesday for the Atlanta Braves at CoolToday Park.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Braves' pitchers and catchers arrived in North Port, Florida, for spring training on Wednesday, but a few positional players were on hand early at CoolToday Park.

2024 NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale spoke in open clubhouse to media about an array of topics. The southpaw said the Cy Young Award sits in his closet and he’s trying to keep his offseason routine similar to last year to stay healthy.

Sale also discussed the plethora of injuries that plagued the team throughout the entirety of the 2024 season.

“It kind of felt like we never fully got our head above water,” Sale said. “It was just one thing after another. A lot of it was just bad luck or bad timing. But again, the resiliency of this squad and the makeup of everyone in this clubhouse got us over that hump during the season and we snuck into the postseason when quite honestly ... we shouldn’t have.”

The Braves lost pitchers Charlie Morton and Max Fried this offseason, leaving a sense of uncertainty about the rotation. However, manager Brian Snitker says he feels good about the pieces in place and young arms on the rise.

Snitker added that it was a really good first day for the squad.

Pitcher Spencer Strider and outfielder Ronald Acuna, Jr. were on hand Wednesday. The two are working their way back from injury, however, general manager Alex Anthopoulos has discussed that neither Strider or Acuna will be on the Opening Day roster.

The first full-squad practice is set for Feb. 18 with the first spring training game on Feb. 22 in Fort Myers.
