ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Braves begin the 2025 regular season in San Diego Thursday. The opening series will set the tone for the rest of the season, but it could have several interesting storylines on its own.
Drake Baldwin makes his MLB debut

An injury to starting catcher Sean Murphy is giving top prospect Drake Baldwin a chance to make his MLB debut. He slots into the starting catcher spot over veterans Chadwick Tromp and James McCann.
Baldwin is seen as a bat-first catcher. He slashed .298/.407/.484 in 72 games for Triple-A Gwinnett and had 12 hits in 50 spring training plate appearances.
Murphy was placed on the 10-day injured list.
Jurickson Profar returns to San Diego

Jurickson Profar had a career year in San Diego last year, parlaying a one-year, $1 million deal with the Padres into a three-year, $42 million deal in Atlanta. It’s sure to be an emotional moment as Profar returns to San Diego playing for a team he grew up loving as a child.
