ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta Braves right-hander Grant Holmes exited Saturday’s game in Phoenix against the Arizona Diamondbacks needing a refresher.
He had just allowed three home runs to Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez -- who later hit his fourth, becoming just the 19th player in MLB history to achieve this feat -- en route to six earned runs off five hits and three walks in 5.2 innings of work.
But up to this point, Holmes had provided the Braves with a quality arm in a rotation full of uncertainty coming out of spring training. Prior to his start against the Diamondbacks, Holmes had a 3.22 ERA in 22.1 innings. Now, it’s sitting at 4.50.
But it won’t get any easier. Holmes has a date with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, a rematch from March 31, when he allowed four runs in four innings of work against the boys in blue.
Atlanta has won nine of its last 13 games, a testament to the team’s recent success following an abysmal 0-7 start to its campaign.

For the Dodgers, it’ll be Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has been lights out for Los Angeles in 2025. In six starts, Yamamoto has a 1.06 ERA with 43 strikeouts. He’s been holding the fort down for a team that’s missing several key pitchers, such as Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, and for what it’s worth, Shohei Ohtani. Ten other pitchers on Los Angeles’ team are on the injured list.
Even with those guys out, the Dodgers lead the NL West at 21-10 and are winners of five straight. First pitch on Friday is at 7:15 p.m. EST.
Here are the pitching probables throughout the weekend.
Saturday, 7:15 p.m. – Braves RHP Spencer Schwellenbach vs. RHP Roki Sasaki
Sunday, 7:10 p.m. – Braves RHP Bryce Elder vs. Dodgers RHP Dustin May
