ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - For those who went to Sunday school, you’re familiar with the story of Ruth and Boaz.

Now, get ready for a modern retelling of the love story, from producers Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin.

“Ruth and Boaz” stars Serayah and Tyler Lepley as the title characters.

In this new take on the Biblical tale, Ruth, played by Serayah, is a rising Atlanta hip-hop artist who gives up the glamorous life and moves to Tennessee. Lepley plays Boaz, a man who helps Ruth find herself.

Franklin, Serayah and Lepley sat down with Atlanta News First to talk about what went into putting the new production together and the message behind the movie, which also stars actress Phylicia Rashad.

“Ruth and Boaz” is set to stream on Netflix on Friday, Sept. 26.
