ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - According to federal data, 1.4 million Georgians — about one in every eight residents — rely on SNAP benefits.

With no relief in sight amid the ongoing government shutdown, some businesses and organizations are stepping in to help.

Crescent City Kitchen, known for its popular brunch, is one of them. The restaurant is offering free meals to families facing food insecurity.

Affected families can enjoy a complimentary meal and beverage when they dine-in between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. through the month of November. They will need to show a SNAP card.

The establishment is also hosting a giveaway and offering essentials like laundry soap, lotion, personal hygiene products, gift cards, toilet tissue, household cleaning supplies, toothpaste, toothbrushes, jackets and more.

Co-owner Crystal Drakes joined Atlanta News First to talk about the “Full Plates, Full Hearts” initiative.
