ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — It’s a Christmas classic! Students at Cobb County Elementary School got the chance to experience the Nutcracker, performed by Atlanta Ballet.

The ballet company’s Kids in Step program introduces thousands of students to The Nutcracker each year through a 35-minute, mini performance designed specifically for school audiences.

The abbreviated show offers a glimpse of The Nutcracker, while inviting students behind the scenes of the magic.

“I think sometimes when you go to a public performance, there’s an expectation that you sit in your seat you be quiet you act a certain way which can sometimes be difficult for kids,” Coordinator Ashley Suta said. “There’s a little more openness and freedom for expression and again they are still respecting the performers.”

The performances create an experience organizers hope children will remember for years to come.

“The younger they’re introduced to the arts they’re more likely they are to be an arts advocate in the future,” Suta added.
