ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — It’s New Year’s Day, and every true Southerner knows there are certain foods that have to be on the menu today: collard greens, black-eyed peas and cornbread.

The traditional dishes are supposed to give you good fortune in the new year — but if you don’t feel like cooking yourself, Macy Mac’s Tea Room is serving up all the fixings!

Chad Reynolds, the restaurant’s director of operations, and General Manager Tina Rayner-Leftwich came to Atlanta News First to talk about the food’s symbolism and what guests can expect.
