Beginning this week, the Braves are unveiling four Hank Aaron diamond fields ahead of the Baseball Hall of Famer’s Feb. 5 birthday.
Last fall, the Braves announced an investment into baseball and softball programs across the city through the “Hank Aaron Diamonds” initiative, which will rebuild and upgrade the infields at Atlanta public high schools.
The first four fields are located at Benjamin E. Mays High School, Maynard Jackson High School, Booker T. Washington High School, and North Atlanta High School.

The Braves are also commemorating Hank Aaron Week with a volunteer day of service, a food pantry donation at the Hank Aaron New Beginnings Academy, and by hosting the APS Baseball Media Day at Truist Park.
History of the Atlanta Braves
The Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966 after 82 seasons in Boston and 13 seasons in Milwaukee. The team had been struggling with declining fan support in both cities.
Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen Jr. and the city’s top business and corporate leaders led the effort to lure the Braves, where they would play at the new Atlanta Stadium (later known as Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium).
The Braves became the first major league professional sports franchise south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
Early Atlanta years (1966-1990s)

The early years in Atlanta were relatively unsuccessful. The franchise had fallen on hard times after leaving Milwaukee, where they had enjoyed great success in the 1950s with stars like Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Warren Spahn.
The “Team of the ’90s” (1991-2005)
This period represents the most successful and memorable chapter in Atlanta Braves history.
In 1991, the Braves experienced a stunning “worst-to-first” pennant race that captivated the city and revitalized baseball in Atlanta. The team went from being one of the worst to winning the National League West Division.
That season led to a Major League Baseball record of 14 consecutive division titles, eight consecutive National League Championship Series appearances, one World Series championship in 1995, and additional pennants in 1996 and 1999.
Modern era (2010s-present)
The Braves moved from Turner Field (1997-2016) to their current home, Truist Park (2017-present).
In 2021, the Braves won their second World Series title in Atlanta. It has earned multiple NL East Division titles.
Overall franchise record
- Four World Series championships (1914 in Boston, 1957 in Milwaukee, 1995 and 2021 in Atlanta)
- 18 National League pennants
- MLB-record 23 divisional titles (through 2025)
- The only franchise to have won the World Series in three different cities
