ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta Braves Spring Training is officially underway.
Pitchers and catchers reported Tuesday, and manager Walt Weiss is already dealing with adversity as right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach will miss Opening Day — and likely more time — due to inflammation and bone spurs in his throwing elbow.
He’s just the latest to suffer the injury bug, joining shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, catcher Sean Murphy and right-hander Joe Jimenez as players who’ll miss Opening Day.
On Sunday, Weiss announced that right-hander Hurston Waldrep experienced right elbow discomfort following a recent live batting practice session and will see a doctor, potentially adding to the team’s list of injuries this early in spring.
