ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Braves have added a familiar name to their organization.
Southpaw Peyton Glavine signed a minor-league contract with the team last week and has been assigned to Double-A Columbus. He last pitched for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the High-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, before getting released in January.
Yes, Peyton is the son of Baseball Hall of Famer and Braves legend Tom Glavine.
Glavine was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 37th round of the 2017 MLB Draft but chose to attend Auburn instead. After going undrafted out of college, he signed with the Nationals as a free agent.
Injuries have defined much of his professional career so far. Glavine owns a 3.42 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP across 53 career minor league appearances but has spent time on the 60-day injured list twice. There’s no indication on whether Glavine received an invitation to Braves Spring Training.
Tom Glavine was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 alongside longtime Braves manager Bobby Cox and former teammate Greg Maddux.
