ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Fans told Atlanta News First they felt an obligation to be at Truist Park on Tuesday to be there when the Atlanta Braves honored Bobby Cox and Ted Turner.
The video board played tribute videos, and a bagpiper played “Amazing Grace” on the field while fans looked down at two portraits of the now-gone Braves legends, separated by their 1995 World Series trophy.
“The fact that I could see that in person that meant a lot,” Benedict Esposito said.
Wearing his Bobby Cox jersey, Lynn Cox (no relation), started watching the Braves on TBS when he lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, thanks to Ted.
“We knew it was going to be special coming back home,” he said. “We decided the moment that we heard about it and we bought tickets and we knew this is the special one we had to be at.”

For five decades, Mary Jo Gallagher has lived and breathed Braves baseball; she called in sick to work to be at the game.
“Very emotional,” she said. “I just feel like they were a huge part of my life; I almost feel like they like fathers to me.”
The two men were honored alongside each other in the Battery.
At Cox’s statue on the first-base line, a handwritten note sat among the flowers, baseballs and Cracker Jack.
“To Bobby Cox #6, You’re a legend, the best there ever was! Thank you for so many great years with the Braves! RIP Skipper, Love Christy.”
