Braves holding auction, matching donations to earthquake relief in Venezuela

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Atlanta Braves are holding a fundraising campaign for earthquake relief in Venezuela.

Through July 12, the Atlanta Braves Foundation will match fan donations dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000. Fans will also be able to bid on a one-of-a-kind painting by artist John Hill depicting Braves star and Venezuela native Ronald Acuña Jr. The painting is also autographed by Acuña.

The Atlanta Braves Foundation is also selling autographed pictures of Acuña, Martin Perez, Robert Suarez and former Brave Eddie Perez.

“It’s bad,” Martin Perez told reporters on Tuesday. “Seeing your country — a lot of people got affected (by) that. It’s hard for me to not be out there trying to help people. I know me and my family we’ve been doing a lot of donation stuff, but it’s still hard for us to get into the media, Instagram, Twitter, and see what’s going to happen there."

“And it’s hard. It’s sad. Because a lot of family lost their family, and they don’t have a house, and it’s really, really bad. I’m sure I can do more, but I’m working. I gotta do my job with my team. But at the same time, my heart and my mind is in Venezuela. I’m just gonna say people have to pray for my country because they’re having a hard time now.”

The photos, which can be found at the Foundation’s booth in section 111 of Truist Park and online at braves.com/relief, are $50 to $150 each.
